WHEN ORDERING FROM OUTSIDE AUSTRALIA

Condition of sale: Please note all sales made to addresses outside Australia are final and that international parcels cannot be left at the door.  Someone needs to be home to receive the parcel or it must be collected from your local post office within 7 days of attempted delivery.

It is common and unfortunate that the postman will not always leave a note for collection so it is imperative that customers regularly monitor the tracking number provided via email. If items are not collected from your local post office within 7 days they will be returned to us in Australia.

Please know that we do everything humanly possible to ensure that orders are express shipped on the day they are received, and we pay a small fortune to provide free express shipping for orders above $249AUD. For this reason, if a customer does not collect from the post office in time, it is their responsibility to pay for shipping if they wish for us to re-post (once the items are returned to us).

What is Wakame?

Our Wakame (Undaria pinnatifida) seaweed is sustainably wild harvested from the incredibly pristine, icy cold waters flowing around Tasmania.

Wakame is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals and has one of the highest nutrient-to-calorie ratios (from a vegetarian source) of anti-inflammatory Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acid (EPA). The salty taste is not just salt but a balanced, chelated combination of sodium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, iron and trace minerals.

Also known as bladder locks and winged kelp, wakame is a leathery, deep-green sea vegetable traditionally used in Japanese cuisine to flavour salads and miso soup. Due to its high absorbency, dried wakame can expand to over 10 times its size when placed in liquid.

Due to its low calorie content, high nutrient density and savoury taste, wakame can be a nutritious component of nearly any diet, including weight loss plans. This seaweed can impart flavour to foods without adding excess fat or sugar, making it a calorie-saving alternative to richer ingredients. In addition, wakame contains a compound called fucoxanthin that can potentially stimulate fat burning.

Weight control
Minerals and vitamins aren't the only thing scientists have found in this brown seaweed. It is said that chemists in Japan have discovered that wakame contains a compound, fucoxanthin, that seems to reduce the accumulation of fat in animals. Fucoxanthin gives wakame its brownish appearance and aids in photosynthesis. This compound appears to stimulate fat oxidation and encourages the liver to produce more DHA, a type of omega-3 fatty acid that helps reduce the bad cholesterol associated with heart disease and obesity.

Anti-Cancer properties
Wakame also seems to play a role in the prevention of cancer. A 2003 article in "Breast Cancer Research" reported that the sea vegetable is also rich in iodine. In a previous Japanese study on breast cancer, this trace element was found to suppress, and even kill mammary tumors. It is speculated that the iodine in wakame and other seaweeds that are so prevalent in Japanese cuisine are responsible for the relatively low breast cancer rate in both human males and females in Japan. This hypothesis is based on the observed increase in breast cancer rates among Japanese women who turned to a Western - style diet with less seaweed intake.

How often should I supplement my dog’s meal?

Wakame Powder is recommended to be fed in every meal, but you can feed it as often as you like.

Can I feed this with other supplements?

Wakame Powder can be fed together with any or all Augustine Approved® supplements or other brands. If you are adding Wakame Powder into your dog's diet or making Augustine's SuperFood (recipes using this product coming soon), you do not need to add additional Wakame Powder but it is healthy and optional to do so.

Why do you recommend feeding Augustine's SuperBoost® with Raw Coconut Oil?

Not only does Raw Coconut Oil help to improve the absorption of nutrients and also offer its own extensive health benefits, but most dogs absolutely love the taste so it assists in encouraging dogs to enjoy new flavours that they may not be used to.

My dog won't eat this product, what can I do?

  • It is rare but your dog may not like the taste of Raw Coconut Oil so try feeding supplements without it (you can try a little bit of water instead).
  • Do not sprinkle powder supplements on top of food and instead ensure you are mixing supplements very well into food. The better the mix, the more diluted the taste that your dog may not be used to. Please note that the word "topper" that is used in pet supplement marketing has caused much confusion. Its intent is to imply that supplements can be used to "top up" the meal rather than that you should add powders on top of food.
  • Try each supplement individually in food to work out which product(s) your dog does not like. Usually it is Faith’s® Cleanse & Detox as it has the strongest and most unusual flavour. Additionally, consider if there is anything else you have added to the diet that your dog may not like the taste of.

FUSSY EATERS GUIDE

If your dog is a fussy eater you can build up to the recommended feeding amount over 4 weeks. Remember, it's not a race so please take your time. Some dogs may even love new supplements for a few days then lose interest.

Start with 1/4 of the recommended feeding amount and increase it by 1/4 every 7 days until you reach the full recommended amount. If your dog loves the taste of coconut oil (or find something else healthy that your dog loves), the aim is for the flavour of the raw coconut oil to overpower the flavour that your dog is not used to.

How do I know if the food or supplements that I am feeding my dog  contains synthetic supplements?

If the ingredients list on the packaging seems as if it is in another language, then have a look for the english version. No, seriously... all those long and strange scientific sounding ingredients are usually synthetic supplements. If the label says the product includes, "vitamins" or "minerals" then you guessed it... synthetic.

Why do I have to use so much Wakame Powder to make Augustine’s SuperFood when the feeding guide states to use far less?

When you are adding Wakame Powder to an existing ready-made food, it is implied that the food is balanced to a reasonable standard, so Wakame Powder is being used a supplement - a bonus to the diet.

When you are making Augustine’s SuperFood™, you are starting from scratch and are relying on the product to supply the recipe with a fair portion of nutrients. By not using the amount recommended in the recipe the diet will certainly be lacking and this can result in issues stemming from nutritional deficiencies, and the listed benefits of the recipes will no longer be accurate. There will be an immediate noticeable difference in stools and they will likely be soft.

Can I also eat Wakame Powder?

Yes! Wakame Powder is dual-certified organic to human standards which means that you can have it too! It is packed with so much goodness that not only is it safe for human consumption, we actually encourage you to add it to your own food. It is an excellent addition to smoothies and can also be prepared like you would a protein shake. Please visit the human-label Wakame Powder store page to read its benefits (the product is exactly the same).
