Why should I add Little Universe® to my dog's diet?

Years in the making, Little Universe® is made from the very best mushroom extracts we could find based on the way they are grown and the extraction process. Just like many natural foods, mushrooms inherently have medicinal benefits and can provide nutritional support to help reduce the risk of disease, as well as to support the body in case of an existing disease.

The nutritional value of Little Universe® is so potent that dogs need only to consume a small amount to obtain the benefits, in turn making its retail price reasonable when compared to cheaper products.

While we make no specific medicinal claims about the benefits of mushrooms due to labelling restrictions in Australia, information on each mushroom extract can easily be found online.

A note about the Feeding Guide

Making an accurate feeding guide for a nutritionally dense extract product was extremely difficult. This is because the smallest spoon size in most spoon sets is ¼ teaspoon. According to the research, to be accurate we would need to have a starting spoon size of 1/16th of a teaspoon.

One teaspoon of Little Universe® is approx. 1.7g / 0.059oz. Even if you feed your half of the recommended amount, it will still be more than adequate to obtain its benefits.

We decided to recommend more rather than less to ensure dogs are obtaining its benefits. As a guide, the concentration of nutrients in Little Universe® that we recommend for adult humans at 1 teaspoon per day.

FUSSY EATERS GUIDE

If your dog is a fussy eater you can build up to the recommended feeding amount over 4 weeks. Remember, it's not a race so please take your time. Some dogs may even love new supplements for a few days then lose interest.

Start with 1/4 of the recommended feeding amount and increase it by 1/4 every 7 days until you reach the full recommended amount. If your dog loves the taste of coconut oil (or find something else healthy that your dog loves), the aim is for the flavour of the Raw Coconut Oil to overpower the flavour that your dog is not used to.

What should I look out for when selecting a quality mushroom supplement?

Those familiar with the benefits of mushrooms look for a high Beta-Glucan content as a sign of quality. The ACTIVE Beta-Glucan content of our mushroom extract ingredients ranges from 10% - 40% and we claim that the overall ACTIVE Beta-Glucan content of Little Universe® is 16.25%.  

Unfortunately, the body cannot absorb the Beta-Glucans from powders well at all and our world-class extraction process is an integral part of making the true benefits of mushrooms bioavailable.

Interestingly, powders will lab-test much higher than extract powders for Beta-Glucans so a common practise is to use mushroom powders while claiming that they are extract powders. This has caused a lot of confusion in the market as it can give a false impression of quality and expected benefits.

While our listed overall Beta-Glucan level of 16.25% may appear low, we are stating the ACTIVE Beta-Glucans as it is an honest and genuine representation and is in fact high for an organically grown and non-synthetic powder.

We know that our extraction process is industry-leading and we believe that products advertising ratios (e.g. 10:1 or 20:1), for the same mushrooms are at the very least using less efficient and dated processes.

Additionally, you will notice that only some of our ingredients are dual extracts. This is because there are no additional nutritional benefits to be derived from a dual extraction process for those ingredients.

Is liquid or powder more potent and nutrient dense?

Extract powder is far more potent and nutrient dense as you are getting 100% mushroom rather than a dilution that is primarily water and may contain alcohol.
